Rounding Third, And Heading For Home Game Summary

Reds Spoil Bailey's Good Start, Find Way To Win 4-3

Box Score

Good

The Reds showed again tonight why they are the best team in the NL Central. Now a certain ESPN Radio host may beg to differ, but the bottom line is that the Reds win when they need to against the teams they are supposed to beat and the St. Louis Cardinals don’t.

Chris Heisey laid down two beautiful  bunts, one for a sacrifice and the other for a base hit. An extra bit of praise for Heisey, who if you saw the game then you noticed him take a peak at third in the 12th inning and caught the 3B napping, enabling him to lay the bunt down to get on base.

Homer Bailey was lights out. He made one mistake that only in Great American Ballpark would you pay for it. His line on the night was 7IP 5H 1R 1ER 0BB 9SO on 109 pitches.

The Reds Bullpen, except for Francisco Cordero. They had rough time in Colorado so it was good to see them get back on the right track. Their line on the night(minus Cordero): 4.2IP 1H 0R 0ER OBB 2SO by Masset, Rhodes, Ondrusek, Chapman, Bray, and Smith.

The Cuban Missile was dominant yet again retiring the side in the 10th on 10 pitches, striking out 2.

The Bad

Dusty Baker. Nothing new. He still drives me crazy.

The Ugly

Francisco Cordero. He didn’t walk anyone, but he gave up 4 consecutive hits, resulting in two runs. He makes too much money to do what he did tonight.

**** Tomorrow night is the 25th Anniversary of 4192 by Pete Rose. It will be a special night at GABP with Pete being honored on the field, however, Major League Baseball in their infinite wisdom will not be allowing Pete to address the crowd. Hey Bud, do us all a favor and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
